Tuoba Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in the Tuoba area 70 km to the east of the Chando County of Tibet. It was named by Li Pu in 1955.
Lithology and Thickness
Clastics and Coal. Composed of grey-black quartz-sandstone, siltstone, sandy shale, clayey limestone, coal seams and poor coal. Thickness is 880 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable or a conformable contact with the underlying Tyokar Fm
Upper contact
Conformably on the underlying Kaxiangda Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the Mangkang, Chando and Chaya areas of Tibet, the Batang area of Sichuan Province, and the Deqin area of Yunnan Province.

Fossils
Yields such Plant fossils (phytolites) as Sphenophyllum, Pecopteris, Fascipteris, Protoblechnum, Gigantopteris, Gigantonoclea, Rhizomopsis, Lobatannularia, Schizoneura and Taeniopteris, whose features are similar to those of the Gigantopterides flora occurring in the Luoping and Xuanwei Coal Series of South China, belonging to part of South China-type of the late-stage Cathaysia flora. There are found only two genera of Coral fossils represented by Liangshanophyllum and Aridophyllum both of which represent zone fossils or important members of the Wujiaping Fm in South China whose age is of the early stage of the Lopingian Epoch.
